For DIY Moss Gardeners and Native Plant Lovers who want to get a jumpstart on their landscapes

Workshop Description: Join Mossin’ Annie as she shares her joys and challenges in the evolution of her front yard into a serene moss retreat. Like most other moss lovers, she started on her moss journey captivated by the beauty of MOSS. Moving from this generalized perspective to the realization there are many moss species, she was delighted to discover the numerous shades of green and various textures of mound and carpet species. As expected, she observed that some moss species lived in the shade; yet, to her surprise, others tolerated sun conditions. With this minimal knowledge, Annie Martin initiated the process of changing out her grass lawn and mulched flower beds to mosses in order to achieve the desired year-round green appeal. Boldly, she even transformed her asphalt driveway in the dead of winter.

Years of keen observation along with determination, dedication and perseverance have fueled her passion and facilitated the development of her expertise to become an internationally-respected moss gardening advocate and author of The Magical World of Moss Gardening. Mossin’ Annie will provide valuable advice for aspiring DIY moss gardeners who want to achieve moss magic in their own gardens. She’ll cover planting methods; supplemental watering benefits; dealing with annoying weeds; incorporating native plants and favorite sentimental perennials; and addressing critter damage. As a special treat, workshop participants will get to experience the universal energy of her GONG! After the garden tour, participants will be invited to drive over to Mossin’ Annie’s nearby Mossery and make special moss purchases.

Workshop Leader BIO: Asheville native and internationally-recognized expert on creating moss landscapes, Annie Martin, known as Mossin’ Annie, infuses her passion for mosses with her knowledge of bryophytes and successful gardening techniques. Owner of Mountain Moss Enterprises, Inc., author of The Magical World of Moss Gardening (2015; Japanese translation, 2017), and licensed NC Landscape Contractor, Martin offers consultation services, lectures/workshops, and turnkey moss landscape installations emphasizing the year-round green appeal of eco-friendly mosses. At her Mossery in Brevard, NC, she cultivates shade, sun and versatile moss species for DIY moss gardeners and professional landscapers. Mossin’ Annie advocates the benefits of native mosses as intentional horticultural choices that play an essential role in healthy ecosystems. Through participatory education and professional guidance, Mossin’ Annie will lead participants through an interactive learning process.
