While many folks like MOSS, few people have ever had this opportunity to learn about the variety of types and distinctive botanical characteristics of WNC’s 450 bryophytes including mosses, liverworts and hornworts. Mossin’ Annie will highlight common types with recognizable features for identification. Moss Hikers are encouraged to bring your own close-up loupe or magnifying glass to enable taking a closer look.
Morning hikes begin at 10 am and afternoon hikes start at 1 pm. Thanksgiving holiday hikes available to groups upon request. Contact Mossin’ Annie to schedule your own special event on weekdays or during holidays. MOSS HIKES last about 2 hours. Moss Hikers should meet ½ hour in advance of each scheduled hike. Plenty of parking is available. We’ll meet at the small outdoor amphitheater in the center area of the parking lot.
The trail is moderate but be prepared to bushwhack as we venture to off-trail sites. Dress appropriately in layers and bring back-up rain gear. Hikes conducted RAIN or SHINE. Mosses love the rain, right?
MOSS HIKES are open to ALL ages. Children and adults will delight at these miniature plants and have FUN learning about their unique botanical characteristics. Friendly DOGS are welcome – if you keep them leashed.
